I’m applying to four UC’s, and I am an ELC student. Do I still have a chance of being admitted to any of the other ones I do not apply to?

i just got my elc letter. i was stoked. i took the sat and got a 1690 but i have gotten all a’s in high school and have taken 10 honors/ap courses i am ranked number 1 unweighted and 25 weighted. i have some non academic activities as well. do you think i have a good chance of getting into berkely or ucla. im taking the sat over again though.

@Mara: Definitely. Those are just the schools that will definitely accept you. Chances are if you’re an ELC student, many of the higher schools will also end up admitting you since you’re likely qualified. You just know that you can count on being admitted to the ELC schools that guarantee you admission.

Is it possible to get accepted into more than one UC through the ELC program? I got guaranteed into a few, and my first choice out of them is UCI. I don’t want to end up at a school I don’t really want to go to, but I’m afraid I won’t have back up if i don’t get into UCI…

@cuious: They’ll send you special log in information to use as an ELC student. You don’t have to apply early, you just have to use their specific login for you.

does ELC mean, that you have to apply early?
can i apply normal, and still use ELC?

@Harika: I didn’t apply to UCLA, only to Berkeley. I had an average amount of AP classes — four or five I think — and I had strong SAT/ACT scores. However I didn’t really have many extra-curricular activities like clubs and sports under my belt — it was mostly stuff I had done outside of school that I had, and I think that might’ve hurt me a bit. I know a good amount of students who received the ELC letter, but most of them were not Berkeley/UCLA caliber students.

You also need to realize that each year is becoming more and more competitive — it was even harder to get into the UCs this year than it was the year before, and next year will inevitably be tougher still.

But was it because you didn’t have enough AP classes?? What were your SAT scores??
Did you have a few extra curricular activities? Now I’m starting to get scared…many people I talked to who got into ELC got in to Berkeley and LA…did you get into LA though?

@Harika: No, not every ELC student gets into Berkeley and LA. I actually was an ELC student, but Berkeley turned me down. I received my pincode after I had begun the application in October. Maybe 2007/2008 was an off year, but we didn’t find out until mid-October.

Does pretty much everyone in ELC get into Berkeley and LA? I haven’t heard about anyone that is in ELC and didn’t get into all the UC’s….also, I thought that the pin code is sent out in late August / early September??
