@Sinclair: That’s pretty true. In college, though, generally most thieves aren’t going to take the time to try to get through a lock — they’re looking for a quick grab and that’s it. But it never hurts to be safe.

Be careful in making your selection. You do not want a less then satisfactory model which can be easily cut or picked. While many thieves might simply walk away, some may actually attempt to pick the lock or cut it if they know that it is a weak one. At the same time, you may also notice that there are many locks which are made the same way, but are priced differently. This is because you are paying for the name on the box.

Finally a way that my laptop is not going to get stolen when I leave it on my desk in my dorm this is a great idea and I was un-aware that such a thing existed, thankyou.

@Nansi: Actually laptop theft is very common at colleges. It’s not too difficult to crack a Windows password, so if you steal a laptop you can easily make the machine yours.

Laptops are only for the personal use so i think there is no need of the to protect it. I think we can put a user account n it and i think it’s enough for it.

I had never heard of something that actually locks your laptop to a desk, I have got through several laptops at uni and this seems like a fantastic idea.

Although theft can happen. As long as your are careful there is no reason for a laptop to be stolen. With regards to locks: locks can be broken.

We sometimes forget that the laptop is an important capital we carry with us everywhere. It is something relatively new for us to move a PC of thousands of dollars. Of course all the precautions to take care are welcome.
