How to set crouching to toggle in Left 4 Dead

Crouching in Left 4 Dead is surprising essential. While crouching, you aim better, allowing you to pick off zombies at a distance better than you otherwise would be able to. When large amounts of zombies are coming, crouching allows you to hit them quicker and avoid getting hit yourself.
One thing that really irked me about crouching was that you couldn’t set the key to toggle crouch — you had to hold it to crouch down. If you’re going to be crouching just a few seconds, that’s not a big deal, but crouching for a long time happens as well, and being able to tap a key to enter/exit crouch would be pretty handy.
Luckily, much like making Zoey and Louis scream in Left 4 Dead, setting crouch to toggle on a key is as simple as a quick console command. Here’s how to do it:
Enable the console
- Open the “Settings” screen on Left 4 Dead.
- Go into the settings for “Keyboard/Mouse”
- Set the console to “Enabled”
Bind the key
- Open the console in Left 4 Dead by pressing the “`” key (the one that’s above tab)
- Type in the following: bind x “toggle_duck”. Replace “x” with whatever key you want to use to toggle crouch.
- Hit “Submit”
You might find it useful to keep a key that you can hold down to crouch as well, so that you have one you can use to toggle and the other you hold down to crouch. If you want this, just go into your control settings and set the key for crouching to something other than the one you just set to toggle.
Hope this helps!

I can’t believe i’m gonna say this….but i kinda miss Windows. I’ve using linux for a bit now and it’s been able to replace every aspect of computing i need other than gaming!
with that said, crouch people! If you’re in the path between my gun and the zombie, you’ll be carrying my bullets around ;)
nice tip either way ;)
