I’m bringing back WP-SpamFree

I’ve been getting progressively more spam comments lately, and I think it’s time I reactive WP-SpamFree, a WordPress plugin that helps cut back on spam. I used it earlier, but I heard that a couple of comments from legitimate readers were labeled as spam by it.

However I’m going to try again and see if things work out a bit better this time. If you find that your comments are being labeled as spam or blocked, kindly use the Contact page to inform me so that I can disable the plugin if necessary.

How much crap do you get? I usually get 3 pieces of spam for every ‘real’ comment.

@Liam: I’m getting about that, but a lot of spam was getting into the normal inbox which just becomes a pain.

Thank you very much for putting in the info about contacting you directly if your comment gets spammed. I comment regularly on a handful of blogs, and from time to time, some of my comments will get blocked, even though I am a regular. I do feel you about spam comments though because they are so annoying!

No, paul please have this spam filter always enabled. Because this will eat away lot of your productive time. I suggest you try akismet.com which is the powerful spam filter in the planet.

Paul, I hate spam as much as you. On one of my blogs I recently I found about 100 comments on an older post that had accumulated some pagerank. Luckily I had just install WP Hashcash. I highly recommend it. It works with Akismet to provide a very lethal punch to almost all automated spam.

I use Akismet and it is good. The only reason why you don’t want to use Akismet is if you are afraid WordPress may spy on you….

@James: I use Akismet, but it’s not really enough.
