Why your posts are appearing twice in Google Reader

This one had me baffled for a while, but I think I finally figured it out.

I have Google Reader integrated with FireFox, and every morning I check my favorite blogs for new posts. I subscribe to my own to make sure that my posts come out just fine, and I was noticing lately that all of my posts have been appearing twice!

This was driving me crazy. I was afraid that everyone was being updated of my posts twice. Not wanting to be a spammer, I checked my ping list, I Google’d for solutions, and I couldn’t figure it out.

Now, I’m hoping that no one else has experienced this, because I think I know why finally.

You see, I use Google Alerts to monitor new postings about several topics. One such topic is Xatal. I look for updates which might say what other people are saying about the site. Well, Google Alerts were turning up my own posts! So not only was I subscribing to my posts, but Google Alerts was turning them up too!

This is helpful because I did see posts twice, and I had no idea, so thank you for researching this. That’s especially smart to subscribe to your own blog to make sure that it is correct.
