Statistics for August 2009

August-2009-traffic

Highlights of August 2009:

  • By far, the post of the month was 108 College Dorm Necessities. This post single-handedly brought in 14,000 views this month — about half of my overall traffic.
  • Those little bumps you see in traffic are days where StumbleUpon contributed a lot. The college dorm necessities were stumbled a bit, but my post about 50 college tips also got some buzz as well.
  • This was my second best month overall yet, which is great motivation. I received about 3 times as much traffic as I did in June, where a long decline in traffic ended. Most of this traffic was also from search engines, so it’s not like StumbleUpon held my hand for all of it.
  • This is the first month I’ve made any significant money from Google Adsense. I’ve been using Adsense for about six months now, and while I’ve made some money, it hasn’t been much. August brought in $55 in earnings, which is both unexpected and cool. Buying textbooks won’t be as painful this quarter :)
  • Even though this has been a great month for Xatal, I do know that the next few months will probably not continue these trends, since school’s already started.

Aaaand it’s time for a new poll!

When does (or did!) school start for you?

How much traffic did you get overall? Google literally sent me triple it’s regular traffic this month which was really cool.

Oh, man what a jump on the 24th of August. Nice. So most of this traffic is organic? or from referring sites and direct traffic?

Most of it’s organic, about 55%. The next biggest is referring sites.

Don’t expect your traffic to decline… keep thinking of new things that college students like myself will find useful. Studying tips, exam tips, creative things to eat when you’re hungry, fun stuff to do with your friends you might have not thought of, and useful stuff like that.

@Turner: Thanks for the tips! I’ll be writing some new posts pretty soon.

Nice one, you’re doing well! Keep it up and this could turn into a nice little earner.

That’s pretty good spare change to get for your textbooks from Adsense! I think that I have made like $10, but it still inspirational to know that something is happening.

This is great inspiration and motivation for me and, I’m sure, a lot of bloggers.

They say there’s a barrier that you need to break through with your blog, when the novelty of it is wearing thin and you feel like you’ve already written most of your best posts yet you haven’t seen much reward for your effort. But this is the time when you have to break through that barrier and you’ve done it and earned some financial reward, well done.
